Owl and Mouse

An Owl and a Mouse fairy tale about friendship - watercolor illustrations
An Owl gives a gift to a Mouse
I created the illustrations for a children's book about the friendship between an Owl and a Mouse. This story gently reminds us that we are all very different — and that even the closest friends can struggle to find mutual understanding.
An owl and a mouse are sitting under a tree
Owl and Mouse truly wanted to be friends. But due to a complex stomach condition, Mouse couldn't always feel well enough to play with Owl. Mouse didn't want to talk about this invisible illness with her friend, while Owl felt hurt and upset whenever Mouse didn't show up for their meetings.

An owl and a mouse get acquainted
Only after they finally opened up to each other — and Mouse shared the truth about being sick — were they able to come up with quiet, gentle games they could play together, even on Mouse's harder days.
How I brought this story to life visually
I created these illustrations using a combination of digital watercolor, Photoshop, and artificial intelligence. My task was to replicate another artist's style — but honestly, I don't think I quite succeeded. Instead, the illustrations became their own. They feel like they were painted with real watercolor and soft pencil. They are lively, joyful, and full of warmth. I can easily imagine these characters moving and breathing in an animated film.

A heartfelt thank you
I am deeply grateful to my client, Laura Denmark, for trusting me with her story and giving me the opportunity to paint these watercolor illustrations for her book.

Fairy Tales Mother Day

I have created watercolor illustrations for a book "Fairy Tales for Mother Day" for the youngest readers, aged 2 to 5. This book celebrates Mother's Day and is filled with gentle tales featuring children, adults, and animals. These warm and tender stories are perfect for bedtime reading or for sharing in a kindergarten setting.

I created illustrations for a children's book dedicated to Mother's Day using digital watercolor, Photoshop, and artificial intelligence.
Mother bird and her chick
My process begins with pencil sketches, during which I determine the composition of each drawing and create a linear black-and-white storyboard.
A mother hare hugs her baby hare
Once the main characters and compositions are approved by the client, I move on to rendering all elements in full color. At this stage, I integrate artificial intelligence, which helps me discover richer and more beautiful variations in color, form, and tonal balance for my compositions.
The fox and her cub
Finally, I refine everything by hand in Photoshop—bringing all the images together, applying stylization, and adding textures to give the artwork a warm, tactile feel.
Mother Mouse and her Child mouse
The Mother's Day book is a resource for parents, educators, and young readers aged three and up, designed for use both in kindergarten and at home. It includes six fairy tales accompanied by vibrant, full-color illustrations.

Each story is followed by discussion questions to engage children, support reading comprehension, and deepen their connection to the narrative. The book also features interactive materials and even a small theater—children can cut out paper figures and act out one of the tales.

This is a wonderfully meaningful project for children, and I am truly grateful to have been entrusted with creating the watercolor illustrations for Bumba Publishing House!

The Adventures of Alyosha and His Friends

Alyosha and his friend Petya fishing
I created a series of watercolor illustrations for a heartwarming children's book about a young boy named Alyosha and his summer visits to his grandmother's village.
Children playing ball on the beach
Girl swinging on a swing in summer
Children make a snowman in winter
Through these images, I wanted to capture the pure, unfiltered joy children feel when swimming in the river, waking up for an early morning fishing trip, or playing ball in the fresh country air.
In every piece, I paid special attention to color. I kept the palette clean and luminous—light and bright, just like a child's emotions.
My Creative Process for Drawing Watercolor Illustrations:
In my work, I follow a well-established illustration process that helps me build strong mutual understanding and trusting relationships with every client.
Step 1 – Understanding the Scope
I begin by creating a shared table in Google Drive to clearly determine how many illustrations are needed for the project. I record all technical requirements, read through the provided text carefully, and note every necessary format and specification for the artwork.
Step 2 – Character & Composition Sketches
Once the scope is clear, I move on to pencil sketches, developing the characters and their expressions, poses, and personalities. I also create black-and-white compositional drafts and share them with the client for feedback and approval.
- Step 3 – Client Collaboration & Revisions
Client comments are always welcomed and carefully reviewed. I make revisions based on your feedback before moving forward. This stage ensures we are fully aligned on the vision before any color work begins.
Step 4 – Color Exploration with AI
At the coloring stage, I integrate artificial intelligence to explore a wide range of color palettes and lighting moods. This allows me to present beautiful, luminous options for each composition before making the final artistic choices.
Step 5 – Final Handcrafting in Photoshop
In the final step, I bring every element together by hand in Photoshop. I refine textures, enhance details, adjust lighting, and add those finishing artistic touches that make each illustration feel warm, polished, and uniquely yours.

The kitten goes for a walk

I created the watercolor illustrations for the children's book "Kitten Goes for a Walk", published by Bumba Publishing House. This is a heartwarming story for the youngest readers — little ones who are just learning how to dress properly when it's cold outside. In a fun, playful way, the author teaches the correct sequence of putting on winter clothes before stepping outdoors.
A kitten is swinging on a swing
Mom and Dad help the kitten get dressed
The kitten looks out the window, and it is winter
The Story
The kitten looks out the window. Snow is falling — trees, benches, and the playground are all buried under soft white drifts. Children are sledding, having snowball fights, and building a snowman. The kitten longs to join them, but first, she needs to get dressed.
A kitten tries to get dressed, putting mittens on her ears
The kitten put a scarf on her head
She tries to find her clothes on her own, but in the process, everything gets mixed up: mittens on her ears, a scarf wrapped around her head, tights on her paws, and so on.
The kitten got dressed as best she could, mixing up all her clothes
Then Mama Cat arrives — and is utterly surprised by what she sees! Of course, she lovingly helps the kitten put everything on correctly. Finally, mother and kitten go out to enjoy the winter wonderland together.
Mom was surprised and laughed when she saw how the kitten dressed herself
Now the kitten dresses herself correctly
The kitten put mittens on her paws
Mom and the kitten left the house for a walk
My Creative Process
Character Design – I began by sketching the main character — the kitten. I created her in full color, as well as in black and white, from multiple angles. I also illustrated Mama Cat embracing her little one.
Storyboarding – Next, I produced the main storyboards for the book in a linear black‑and‑white format.
AI Integration – I then applied preliminary color and brought in artificial intelligence. AI helps me find the most harmonious color combinations, enhances the atmosphere, and adds beautiful lighting effects.
Final Detailing in Photoshop – Finally, I imported all the images into Photoshop, where I manually refined and completed every illustration by hand. I added textures, highlights, and small details — bringing every scene together into a cohesive, warm, and delightful whole.
Why Work With Me?
Why should you commission watercolor illustrations for a children's book from me?
I blend traditional drawing skills with modern AI tools to create illustrations that are consistent, emotionally engaging, and visually stunning. I pay close attention to character continuity, storytelling, and the little details that make a child's book magical.
I am a professional illustrator, I have illustrated more than 20 children's books worldwide, working with both independent authors and large publishing houses.
In my books, I strive to capture:
The feeling of nature – soft landscapes, mountains, forests, and changing seasons that mirror the character's inner journey.
Children's emotional states – their sincere joy, quiet sadness, wonder, and moments of doubt.
Dynamic compositions – movement and energy that pull the reader through the story.
What truly inspires me are deep, psychological stories – the kind that speak to both children and their parents. I love creating illustrations that help families understand each other better: a child seeing their own fears reflected on the page, and a parent recognizing what their child feels but cannot yet put into words.
Let me bring your story to life with warmth, care, and creativity — from the first sketch to the final polished spread.
I would be honored to work with you on your next project!

Horses Pentro

Watercolor illustrations bringing to life the story of wild and domestic horses in the Pentro Valley of Italy — capturing the gentle spirit of the horses, the beauty of the Italian landscape, and the quiet magic of everyday moments in the valley.
A girl tenderly brushing through a horse's mane — a quiet, caring moment between a child and an animal.
The wonderful author Michael DeMarco has written a book about a unique breed of horses that live in Italy's Pentro Valley. These horses live outdoors year‑round in a high mountain valley. Over centuries, they have adapted to harsh weather conditions and a sparse diet. They are incredibly resilient, courageous, and at the same time have a calm, gentle temperament.

Children running a race with a little foal — full of laughter, playful energy, and the joyful spirit of childhood.
A boy gently stroking a horse's neck.
Horses standing quietly in a meadow wrapped in morning mist — soft light, gentle silence, and the peaceful beauty of a new day beginning.
The breed is considered very rare and is endangered — its population numbers only about 250 individuals. In recent years, local authorities (the Molise region) and conservation organizations have been actively working to protect their habitat and preserve the breed's genetic purity.

Horses grazing in a meadow among dandelions
A mother horse and her foal grazing quietly together in the meadow, side by side — a tender picture of family, safety, and the simple beauty of being close to one another
I love horses. I ride myself and have been involved in equestrian sports. So it was especially meaningful to me when DeMarco entrusted me with illustrating his book about Italian horses.
A bay horse lowering its head to drink from a clear mountain stream — the cool, fresh water flowing gently over stones, and a quiet moment of peace in the high valley
Gray horses standing quietly in a field nestled among rolling hills — still and gentle against the soft landscape, like part of the morning itself
A gentle Maremma sheepdog working alongside the horses in the Pentro Valley — guiding them with quiet patience and loyal care, a true guardian of the herd
Spending time with horses is wonderful for relieving stress, lifting your mood, and improving your physical well‑being. This book is about the connection between horses and people. It's also about ecology — caring for the environment, not littering, cleaning up after yourself, and teaching children to do the same from an early age.

Character Development for the Book
I sketch and develop all the main characters right after receiving the manuscript and discussing the author's vision for each hero. This is a crucial and deeply responsible stage – bringing the written word to life through expressive visual storytelling.
Fluria is a joyful witch – still very young by magical standards, just 330 years old. That's why she finds her elderly neighbors – the Water Sprite and the Wood Goblin – a bit dull, and she's always yearning for new friends and exciting adventures.
