I created the watercolor illustrations for the children's book "Kitten Goes for a Walk", published by Bumba Publishing House. This is a heartwarming story for the youngest readers — little ones who are just learning how to dress properly when it's cold outside. In a fun, playful way, the author teaches the correct sequence of putting on winter clothes before stepping outdoors.
A kitten is swinging on a swing
Mom and Dad help the kitten get dressed
The kitten looks out the window, and it is winter
The Story
The kitten looks out the window. Snow is falling — trees, benches, and the playground are all buried under soft white drifts. Children are sledding, having snowball fights, and building a snowman. The kitten longs to join them, but first, she needs to get dressed.
A kitten tries to get dressed, putting mittens on her ears
The kitten put a scarf on her head
She tries to find her clothes on her own, but in the process, everything gets mixed up: mittens on her ears, a scarf wrapped around her head, tights on her paws, and so on.
The kitten got dressed as best she could, mixing up all her clothes
Then Mama Cat arrives — and is utterly surprised by what she sees! Of course, she lovingly helps the kitten put everything on correctly. Finally, mother and kitten go out to enjoy the winter wonderland together.
Mom was surprised and laughed when she saw how the kitten dressed herself
Now the kitten dresses herself correctly
The kitten put mittens on her paws
Mom and the kitten left the house for a walk
My Creative Process
Character Design – I began by sketching the main character — the kitten. I created her in full color, as well as in black and white, from multiple angles. I also illustrated Mama Cat embracing her little one.
Storyboarding – Next, I produced the main storyboards for the book in a linear black‑and‑white format.
AI Integration – I then applied preliminary color and brought in artificial intelligence. AI helps me find the most harmonious color combinations, enhances the atmosphere, and adds beautiful lighting effects.
Final Detailing in Photoshop – Finally, I imported all the images into Photoshop, where I manually refined and completed every illustration by hand. I added textures, highlights, and small details — bringing every scene together into a cohesive, warm, and delightful whole.
Why Work With Me?
Why should you commission watercolor illustrations for a children's book from me?
I blend traditional drawing skills with modern AI tools to create illustrations that are consistent, emotionally engaging, and visually stunning. I pay close attention to character continuity, storytelling, and the little details that make a child's book magical.
I am a professional illustrator, I have illustrated more than 20 children's books worldwide, working with both independent authors and large publishing houses.
In my books, I strive to capture:
The feeling of nature – soft landscapes, mountains, forests, and changing seasons that mirror the character's inner journey.
Children's emotional states – their sincere joy, quiet sadness, wonder, and moments of doubt.
Dynamic compositions – movement and energy that pull the reader through the story.
What truly inspires me are deep, psychological stories – the kind that speak to both children and their parents. I love creating illustrations that help families understand each other better: a child seeing their own fears reflected on the page, and a parent recognizing what their child feels but cannot yet put into words.
Let me bring your story to life with warmth, care, and creativity — from the first sketch to the final polished spread.
I would be honored to work with you on your next project!
