How I Create Illustrations
How I illustrate a book – from the moment I receive the manuscript to the final finishing touches.
✨ magic on the pages of your book ✨
My work is far more than just “drawing pictures.” It’s a collaborative journey into the world of your book, where every page becomes a tiny work of art. I carefully transform your ideas and words into vivid, living images that children and adults alike will fall in love with.
How I Bring Illustrations to Life: From Text to Vibrant Imagery
1. Immersion in Your Story
It all starts with reading. I carefully study your manuscript, ask thoughtful questions, and immerse myself in the mood of your book, the personalities of your characters, and the heart of your message. We also discuss practical details: book size, cover type, margins, and publisher requirements. I want to see your book exactly as you envision it.
2. A Clear Plan – Peace of Mind
I create a Google spreadsheet that outlines everything: illustration number, page number, text on the page, scene description (plot, composition, interaction, emotion), illustration type (half-page, quarter-page, full-page, cover, double-page spread), and price per illustration. You’ll always see the full scope of work and cost – no surprises. If you have a preliminary layout, that’s fantastic – but it’s not required.
3. Bringing Characters to Life
I design the main characters – first in black and white, then in color. I focus on capturing personality, age, temperament, ethnic traits, and other details to make each character feel alive and instantly recognizable. You approve the designs, I make revisions (if needed), and only then do we move forward.
4. Storyboard – The Skeleton of Your Book
In black-and-white sketches, I show the composition, character interactions, illustration placement on the page, and space for text. This is the architecture of your future visual narrative. You review, approve, request adjustments – and I make them.
5. The Magic of Color + Artificial Intelligence
The most creative stage. I search for the perfect color palette for each scene. Here, neural networks (Midjourney, Stable Diffusion) become my creative partners – they expand my possibilities by suggesting inspiring color solutions. I bring the best versions back into Photoshop and work with digital watercolor: custom brushes recreate authentic washes, blooms, wet-on-wet effects, and flowing pigments. The result? Lightness, airiness, and the depth of genuine watercolor.
6. Bringing It All Together
After your approval, I unify all the illustrations into a cohesive visual style. I ensure the color dynamics flow naturally with the story’s development, refine textures, and verify that every character remains consistent from one page to the next. I fine-tune lighting and subtle details – and send everything back to you. Revisions are welcome at any stage.
7. The Technical Finale
I export the images in your preferred formats (PNG, TIFF, PSD, or others), remove text from pages if needed, and upload everything to Google Drive with zero quality loss. This takes just one day.
🎨 The result – you are the proud owner of finished, stylish, atmospheric illustrations that will make children return to your book again and again.
